My daddy was hypertensive – Feyi Agagu

agaguMr Feyi Agagu, the first son of the late Dr Olusegun Agagu, a former governor of Ondo State, on Saturday said his father was hypertensive.
NAN reports that Agagu, who returned from United States on Thursday, reportedly slumped in Ikoyi, Lagos, where he was having a meeting with Ondo indigenes on Friday evening.”He just had a medical examination, which showed that he had a little cholesterol, and was hypertensive.”There is diabetics in our family, but it’s nothing major; it was just something he had been dealing with for the past 10 to 15 years. So, there was no inkling that something was about to happen,” Agagu said.According to him, his mum has lost her best friend and her husband.
He confirmed that his father passed away in Lagos on his way to St Nicholas Hospital. He added that his father had the usual illness that comes with age, “so there was no stand out cause for his passing”.“He lived a simple but a fulfilled and happy life. He left amazing memories and fantastic legacies behind.”I will miss the friendship, I will miss the advice; he was pretty much anything any wife, son or daughter could ask for in a father.”He was a mentor to many, a brother, a benefactor; I’m sure a lot of people will miss him,” he said.
Agagu said the family had just returned for their annual two and a half weeks family vacation and during that time his father showed no sign of illness.”I guess when it’s time to go, when your maker comes to get you, when he brought you, he did not ask anybody, so he can take you when he sees fit,” he said.He said that arrangements for the burial were yet to be made. In his response to the development, Chief Olagunsoye Oyinlola, a former Governor of Osun State, said he was “grieved”. “We met in politics and he remained a very nice senior colleague and when he came back two days ago, we talked about a meeting tonight,” Oyinlola said on Saturday.
He said that he would miss everything about his late colleague, who was the perfect gentleman, who always cared for the welfare of others. “I asked him if he would be coming to Ibadan and he answered no, he then invited me to meet on Saturday in Lagos, unfortunately that was not to be,” he said. Oba Rilwan Akiolu, the Oba of Lagos, described the late Agagu as an unassuming, brilliant and hardworking governor, who served the nation meritoriously.

PDP break-up: Obasanjo-Atiku feud slows down New PDP

The fire-works expected from the New PDP is being slowed down by the Obasanjo- Atiku feud. The break-up of ruling PDP has been linked to the duo of Obasanjo and Atiku especially within the Villa. This belief led to the suspicion with which presidency viewed the former Obasanjo’s intervention efforts to reconcile the rebel faction with the party.
Having closely monitored events leading to the break-up of PDP from both the government and rebel camp, it is obvious that President Jonathan is the chief culprit- he allowed Tukur, Anenih, Akpabio, Wike and co to push him to open war fronts where sleeping dogs are better left to lie. Rivers State Governor, Amaechi, never had this level of followership and sympathy in Nigeria until Jonathan and Wife were drawn into an unnecessary battle with him. The plot to humiliate Amaechi led to the humiliation of four Northern Governors and the strengthening of the anti-Jonathan elements. While escaping from presidential victimization and humiliation, Amaechi and his group, from informed sources, contacted Babangida and Atiku. Obasanjo has been Amaechi’s ally but Babangida and Atiku were yet to actually place him, but the presidential persecution of brought the three together in defense of the governor and his factions.
The fact that Obasanjo, Babangida and Atiku have suspicion for each other is Goodluck Jonathan’s saving grace. If these three men had buried personal differences and stood dangerously behind the break-away PDP faction, the Tukur led PDP would have scattered to pieces. An Obasanjo- Atiku alliance can scatter PDP. An Obasanjo-Babangida alliance can spell doom for PDP and a Babangida- Atiku alliance can irredeemably fractionalize the ruling party. Whether it is God or Lucifer that stopped them from uniting against Jonathan, only the prophets and seers can explain-however, their disunity is Jonathan’s gain.
The reason why the Jonathan-Tukur alliance is still standing, despite the recent break up of PDP is because Obasanjo is wary of Atiku’s influence over the rebel governors. Obasanjo, from reliable sources, told rebel governors to beware of Atiku and his fabled selfishness. He repeatedly told them to forget the Atiku factor and fight their battles alone, warning that the former Vice President is a spoiler. He also rejected the idea of the governors defecting to either PDM or APC. When one of the governors drew his attention to their contacts with the former vice president, he dismissed Atiku as worse than Jonathan. Obasanjo reportedly lectured them on the dangers of aligning with Atiku but whether his governor students believed his lectures or not is a subject for another day.
Jonathan ,Tukur and his old PDP co travellers should thank God that the suspicion between these three men wedged their unity and co-operation in the effort to tear PDP out of their hands because if they had united, the president would have to sacrifice a lot, including treasured political alliances to save his 2015 ambitions.
There is wide belief within the Villa that Obasanjo personally co-ordinated the humiliation of Jonathan at Eagles square. This is far from the truth. Obasanjo was merely informed of the new twist of events which he was not comfortable with. The original intention sanctioned by Obasanjo was that the rebel governors should mobilize for the convention and if they get rigged out, they should hold a press conference, condemn the charade and put the entire exercise into credibility crisis with an option of going to court. However, the entrance of another determined war horse, Atiku, changed the face of the exercise. Atiku was more in support of the formation of a New PDP than taking the Old PDP to court. He believed that the courts as presently constituted cannot guarantee speedy justice.
Obasanjo was rattled when he was informed that his arch-enemy, Atiku, had staged a walkout at Eagles square with his boys, forming a new PDP in the process. He had to hurriedly initiate reconciliation before Atiku uses his enormous goodwill to convert the break-away PDP to PDM. Obasanjo never liked the idea of New PDP. He had reportedly told the governors never to abandon the party to people referred to as new comers for another party. Therefore, the attempt by Obasanjo to intervene quickly in the PDP crisis was to ensure that Atiku does not lead his boys astray.
While Chief Elephant Obasanjo and Elephant Atiku are fighting, Baby Elephant Jonathan will most likely coast to another PDP primary victory and a probable 2015 re-election. Obasanjo is so blinded by his hatred for Atiku that he turns against any political moves of his erstwhile Vice President.
The truth Obasanjo does not know is that Jonathan and his kitchen cabinet are no more comfortable with him. They are wisely soft pedaling with the G-7 Governors, caving in to some demands and buying time in order not to swell the camp of the opposition. Their strategy is to engage the rebel governors till they run out of steam, curry them back to the party, and deal with their perceived sponsors. There is a group within the villa which includes Anenih, Tukur, Gana, Anyim, Clarke etc. who are bent on drowning Obasanjo politically immediately the crisis is over. This group will soon be enlarged to include Nnamani, Masari, Na-Abba, Alamaeseigha and all anti-Obasanjo elements.
While Obasanjo is trying to ensure that the G-7 group is not led astray by Atiku, the Jonathan men have mapped out plans to shut him out of PDP. Obasanjo’s obsession with frustrating every Atiku political move will soon be his greatest undoing. It has promised to be an interesting political puzzle as fury takes over common sense and if Obasanjo is not careful, he will find himself in the same situation which made Atiku to escape from PDP to ACN in 2006.

Ozil selling five times more shirts than Bale....

Bale shirtss

New statistics have confirmed that new Arsenal signing Mesut Ozil, is trumping his replacement at Real Madrid, Gareth Bale, in shirts sales.
According to leading online retailer UKSoccershop.com, Ozil is outselling the Welsh winger by five to one. It makes it look as if the Gunners did better business in the transfer market, as they splashed £42.5million on the German playmaker, while the Spanish giants paid £86million for Bale.
UKSoccershop.com managing director Simon Pretswell said: “Leaving aside the debate over Bale’s sporting merits, a large part of any major transfer is often the commercial advantages associated with the signing of the player.
“In the case of Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and previous stars such as David Beckham, it is almost a license to print money for the club as shirt sales and other merchandising goes through the roof.
“While it would be untrue to say there is not an interest in Bale shirts, our sales data shows he is being significantly outsold by Mesut Ozil and is not attracting the same level of attention generated by Neymar when he transferred to Barcelona earlier in the summer.
“Bale’s talents as a footballer are undoubted, but he has never been one of our bestselling Premiership players, with supporters preferring the likes of Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie, Steven Gerrard and even Fernando Torres.”
Madrid have come under heavy criticism for selling Ozil, even from club vice captain Sergio Ramos and Cristiano Ronaldo.

ASUU strike: We have other competing demands – Maku tells lecturers to go back to class

Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, Wednesday said the demands of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, was capable of grounding and frustrating all economic activities of the Federal Government.
According to him, the Federal Government had expended so much in tackling security challenges in the country, noting that the situation had affected what could have gone to the education sector.
The Minister stated this while responding to questions from State House correspondents after the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting in Abuja.
Maku disclosed that the activities of the Boko Haram sect in the northern part of the country had affected the resources of the country.
While appealing to the striking lectures to return to class, Maku said that there were many competing demands on the government from other sectors.
Maku said, “If we say every particular problem we face in this country, we will not work until it is resolved, then I am sure there is no sector that will work.
“If we all insist that every sector’s problem must be completely solved, we will down-tool; we will not work, and the country will stop working.
“We are partners with ASUU. We are friends. They are our patriots and we understand the critical role that the universities teachers are playing to create a new society that we are hoping to have.
“At the same time, this is a real question that we need to look at and we have to put the nation first.
“I know that all of us desire more from the system but the truth is that there are limitations and from the limitations we have, we believe that ASUU really needs to do a rethink and ensure that we re-open our universities.
“We are really feeling the pains that our children at home are passing through and this indeed is obviously avoidable.”

Why I joined Liverpool - Moses

Nigeria international, Victor Moses, has revealed why he accepted to join Liverpool.
Just after completing his season-long loan move from Chelsea, Moses told Liverpool's official website that he is "delighted" to join "a big club like Liverpool."
Moses also pointed out that his target will be a top-four finish at Liverpool.
"First and foremost, I'm delighted to have made the loan from Chelsea to a big club like Liverpool. The most important thing is for me to be professional about it and I'm here to do a job for the club. The target is to get into the top four and for the club to compete in the Champions League - and I'm delighted to be here," said the 22-year-old attacker.
Moses, who was in the stands at Anfield to watch his new club beat champions Manchester United on Sunday, said he is at Liverpool to help them to keep their starting "momentum" in the Barclays Premier League.
The former Crystal Palace also recognises that he has made a right decision by accepting a loan move to Liverpool after falling in the pecking order at Chelsea.
"As I said, this is a massive club and I've come in to try and help my new teammates and the team. The players have been doing great - I went to watch them play on Sunday and the atmosphere was incredible. The fans were great and seeing them beat Manchester United was great for me coming into the club. They've won three out of three, have nine points and are at the top, so we just want to keep the momentum going," said Moses to Liverpoolfc.com.
"It's definitely the right move - this is a massive club with all the history. The club has come a long way and it's great to be here and to be playing for Liverpool. I'm delighted to be here and I just want to enjoy my football.
"As a young footballer coming up, I just want to play games. Not playing games can really damage your career. Liverpool is a massive club and I just want to enjoy my football out on the pitch and try to help my teammates."
The striker, who won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations with Nigeria, disclosed that England international, Daniel Sturridge convinced him to join the Reds.
He said from that point it was not a difficult decision to agree to join Liverpool.
"Yes, I spoke to Studge and he wanted me to come here. He said I'd love it here, but he didn't need to say much. The next morning, I had a word with my agent and told him it could be the right move for me. As I've said, it's a massive club with great history. The club is doing well, so I wanted to come here and enjoy my football. It's been great - I've been here since yesterday and everyone has been looking after me," said Moses.
Liverpool sealed deals for Moses alongside Tiago Ilori and Mamadou Sakho.

Man charged for using Mugabe poster as toilet paper...LOL

    Mugabe Campaign

HARARE: A Zimbabwean man has been charged for allegedly using President Robert Mugabe’s election campaign poster as toilet paper, local media reported Wednesday.
Takura Mufumisi, 26, from the southern city of Masvingo, is said to have taken the paper with him to a bar toilet.
An informant reportedly spotted him tearing up the poster with Mugabe’s image while inside the toilet and made a citizen’s arrest.
“Public prosecutor Mukai Mutumbe told the court that on July 24 this year, Mufumisi entered Landmark bar in the city with the intention to relieve himself  in the bar toilets,” the paper reported.
He has been accused of violating electoral laws.
In Zimbabwe it is a crime to pull down election campaign posters. His case has been adjourned indefinitely by a Magistrate’s Court.
